Lab notebook + inventory for academic research groups

The lab notebook that knows where every vial is.

SLIM links every entry to the real sample, the exact protocol version and the instrument it ran on, so nothing gets lost, even when people leave. We move your spreadsheets in for you.

Send us a spreadsheet first and you’ll see your own lab in SLIM on the call. No card, no slides.

Wash and reload, second cell

Daniel Pondělíček · 18 September 2026

Flow cell reuse trial

Second cell of the trial. Washed with the ONT kit, then counted pores before loading: 640 active, against 1,190 on the first cell last week. Loaded the same library, 1 ng input, onto FC-1034.

Sound familiar?

Three things that happen in every lab, every month.

A reviewer asks for a detail nobody wrote down.

The result is in the figure, but the lot number, the concentration and the instrument settings never made it into the notebook, because writing everything up took too long.

SLIM: link the vial, the protocol and the instrument in a few keystrokes, so the full context is recorded as you work.

The materials you need are nowhere to be found.

Someone moved the box, the label has smudged, and the spreadsheet says freezer 2 when it is in freezer 3. Twenty minutes gone at the freezer door.

SLIM: every item has a position, an owner and an NFC tag. Tap it with a phone and you know what it is and where it belongs.

Two people booked the same instrument for the same time.

The sheet on the door says one thing, the shared calendar another. Someone’s samples wait, and someone’s day is gone.

SLIM: one booking calendar per instrument, where the whole lab sees who has which slot before taking one.

Lab notebook

Every entry says what actually happened and links to everything it touched: the vial, the protocol version, the instrument, the project and the next task. Who wrote it and when is recorded automatically.

Migration included

We move your lab into SLIM. You just send the files.

Most lab software fails at the migration, when somebody has to move years of spreadsheets and nobody has the time. So we do it for you. It is included in the price, and we stay with you until the whole lab is using it.

Your part

  • Send us your files, as they are
  • Check a sample of the result
  • Join one training session

Our part

Everything else.

  • Clean up and map your data
  • Build your inventory and alerts
  • Move it all in, paper records too
  • Train your lab and your admin
  • Stay on call after launch

How the move works

  1. 1You

    Send us your files

Spreadsheets, freezer maps, paper notes. As messy as they are.

We reply with what we found in them.

  2. 2Us

    We build your SLIM

Typed columns, units, IDs and alerts set to the thresholds your lab actually uses.

    You do nothing here.

  3. 3Together

    Check it together

You spot-check a sample. We fix anything that is off.

It is not done until you say it is.

  4. 4Us

    Go live with training

One session for the lab, one for whoever runs it, in English or Czech.

Then a direct line to us, not a ticket queue.

Book a 30-min demoSend a spreadsheet beforehand and watch us migrate it on the call.

The real cost of spreadsheets

Your spreadsheet is a disaster waiting to happen.

It works, until someone overwrites a column, deletes forty rows or leaves with the only version that makes sense. And it always happens on the day you can least afford it.

  1. The spreadsheet
  2. The same rows, typed

The file the lab actually runs on, locked by whoever opened it first.

In a spreadsheet
In SLIM
Two people edit at once. One overwrites the other and _FINAL_v3 is born.
Every change is saved with who made it and when. Nothing gets lost.
Forty rows get deleted and nobody notices for six months.
Nothing is deleted, only archived, and it can always be restored.
The postdoc who built the sheet leaves, and the logic leaves with them.
The structure is built in and applies to everyone, whoever joins or leaves.
Half the rows have no owner, no date or no location.
Required fields. A record cannot be saved half-done.
Nobody notices the antibiotic expires next week.
Expiry and low-stock alerts reach the whole lab in time.
You cannot link an experiment to “row 47”.
Every sample has a permanent ID your notebook links to.

Spreadsheets are still great for quick analysis, so SLIM exports back to Excel whenever you want.

Every month you wait, the mess grows.

More rows to untangle, more knowledge living only in people’s heads, more chances that something gets lost. The migration is on us either way, so the best time to move is before the next thing goes wrong.

One price for the whole lab. Not one per person in it.

The PI, the postdocs, the students, the technician, the visiting collaborator. Adding a person has never cost anything and it never will. On annual billing a ten-person lab pays €1,920 a year. Per-seat tools typically charge that for a handful of seats.

Before you book: the questions everyone asks.

Can we get our data out again?

Yes, all of it, at any time, without asking us. Warehouses export to CSV, entries to PDF and to Markdown source, the whole notebook in one file. We would rather you never feel trapped than keep you by making leaving hard.

Can we host it ourselves?

Yes, with the complete product and nothing held back. It runs on your own institutional infrastructure, our team does the install and stays on for support, and it is priced per deployment rather than listed. Ask and we will quote it.

Who can see our data?

Only the people you let in. SLIM is built for GDPR, with a data processing agreement available, or it can run on your own infrastructure. Five roles decide who sees what: Owner, Administrator, Lab Manager, Contributor and Viewer. Individual notebooks, projects and protocols can each be private to their author.

My people will not use it. What then?

That is the real risk and we treat it as ours. We move your existing data in, including anything that only exists on paper, and we train the lab. The trial stays open while that happens. If the lab genuinely does not adopt it, you have lost a few meetings.

We are not in the Czech Republic. Does that matter?

No. SLIM is built for labs across the EU and the UK. The interface and support are in English (and Czech), and migration and training run over a video call. We are a small team in Prague, so you talk to the people who build it.

How long does setup take?

On average, a lab is in production within a month, including migration and training. A working inventory usually takes days rather than weeks, depending on how much data you send and how tidy it is.

See your own lab in SLIM, in 30 minutes.

Send us a spreadsheet before the call. We build your inventory from it, show you around it live, and you keep it whether you continue or not.
