Hosting

SLIM runs as a managed service. If your institution needs it inside its own infrastructure, it can run there instead, with the complete product.

Who can see what

Access is decided by five organisation-wide roles: Owner, Administrator, Lab Manager, Contributor and Viewer. Beyond that, an individual notebook entry, project or protocol can be marked private to its author, and a private record does not appear in anybody else’s search results.

What is recorded

Every change is kept with the person who made it and the time they made it. Notebook entries carry a version history you can read and restore. Entries can be closed when work is finished and reopened if they need correcting, and both events are recorded rather than hidden.

Deletion

Records are archived rather than destroyed. Every list in the product has an Active tab and a Trash tab, and a record in the Trash is still findable and still restorable. This is deliberate: the most common way a lab loses data is somebody tidying up.

Getting your data out

Warehouses export to CSV. Notebook entries export to PDF, and the editor has a Markdown source view, so the underlying text is plain and portable. The whole notebook exports in one file. There is no charge and you do not have to ask us.

If we disappear

You export everything, or you take the self-hosted deployment and keep running it. We would rather write that down than have you discover the answer later.

What we do not claim

We are not certified to ISO 27001 and we do not hold a SOC 2 report. We are a small company and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. If your institution requires either, tell us and we will be straight with you about where we are.
